The museum thrives on activities with different schedules and locations (including outside its own walls) creating synergies with design studios, stores, schools, residents, cultural spaces and museums in the surrounding area, and is a venue for the public, designers, professionals and related organizations. It also thrives on partnerships with and sponsorships from industry, the business community, academic and other institutions, financial institutions, institutes and other associations, both domestic and foreign. In this way, the museum can be solidly entrenched, constantly renewing the interest of its various audiences.
Different viewpoints on design and fashion provide overlapping interpretations. Various collections portray trends over the course of the 20th century, present fashion in thematic exhibitions or highlight the work of specific authors. Plans are in place for rehearsal rooms to present artist residencies, laboratories, workshops and exhibition rooms for prototypes and industrial products (“When Industry Visits the Museum”). An auditorium and document centre round out the programme.
